Job Description

  • Salary: £25,000 - £27,000 per annum (dependent on funding)
  • Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Contract Type: Fixed-term – subject to continued funding
  • Location: Office-based in Luton with regular community outreach and local travel
  • Reports to: Operations Manager / CEO

Job Purpose

The Project Coordinator will lead and coordinate community engagement activities, outreach projects, workshops, campaigns, and the development of Luton Foodbank’s Food Club and wider community programmes.

The postholder will act as a key representative of Luton Foodbank within the community, delivering presentations, assemblies, workshops, and engagement activities that raise awareness of food poverty, strengthen partnerships, and support community impact.

The role will also involve providing information, advice, and guidance to clients and community members, supporting individuals to access appropriate services, community resources, and wider support opportunities where needed.

The postholder will coordinate projects, campaigns, and events in collaboration with the Operations Manager and CEO, helping ensure programmes are delivered effectively and aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

The postholder will provide flexible operational and community support across the organisation, helping teams respond effectively during busy periods, campaigns, and service demands.

This is a dynamic, community-facing role requiring excellent communication, organisation, relationship-building, and client engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Outreach

    • Deliver presentations, assemblies, and talks to schools, churches, businesses, community groups, and partner organisations.
    • Represent Luton Foodbank at community meetings, events, and networking opportunities.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local organisations and stakeholders.
    • Support outreach activities designed to increase awareness, engagement, and access to services.
    • Promote the work and impact of Luton Foodbank within the wider community.

Workshops & Client Engagement

    • Coordinate and deliver workshops for clients and community members.
    • Support development of educational and wellbeing-focused community sessions.
    • Engage directly with clients in a professional, compassionate, and empowering manner.
    • Gather feedback and outcomes from workshop participants and community activities.

Advice, Guidance & Client Support

    • Provide information, advice, and guidance to clients and community members in a supportive and professional manner.
    • Signpost individuals to relevant support services including welfare, housing, employment, wellbeing, and community support provision.
    • Support clients to access appropriate programmes, services, and opportunities available through Luton Foodbank and partner organisations.
    • Maintain appropriate boundaries, safeguarding practices, and confidentiality when supporting clients.
    • Work collaboratively with external agencies and referral partners where appropriate.

Food Club Coordination

    • Coordinate the delivery and development of the Food Club project.
    • Support operational planning and day-to-day coordination of Food Club activities.
    • Work with volunteers, partners, and community stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery.
    • Monitor participation, outcomes, and community impact of the project.
    • Support future growth and development opportunities for the Food Club initiative.

Projects, Campaigns & Events

    • Coordinate community projects, campaigns, and events alongside the Operations Manager and CEO.
    • Support planning and delivery of fundraising and awareness campaigns.
    • Assist with organising community events, volunteer initiatives, and seasonal campaigns.
    • Ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within agreed objectives.
    • Support collection of impact data, case studies, and community feedback.

Team Support & Organisational Assistance

    • Provide practical support to wider staff and operational teams during busy periods.
    • Assist with day-to-day service delivery where required.
    • Support coordination of volunteers, events, and community activities.
    • Help ensure smooth organisational operations during periods of increased demand.
    • Work collaboratively across departments to support organisational priorities and community needs.
    • Provide flexible operational support across projects and programmes as required.

Administration & Reporting

    • Maintain accurate records and project documentation.
    • Support monitoring, reporting, and evaluation activities.
    • Assist with social media and community communications where required.
    • Contribute to reports for funders, trustees, and stakeholders.

Person Specification

Essential

    • Experience in community engagement, project coordination, or outreach work.
    • Experience providing advice, guidance, support, or signposting to individuals or community groups.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Experience in delivering workshops, talks, or group sessions to adults and children.
    • Strong organisational and project coordination abilities.
    • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and community groups.
    • Passion for community development and social impact.
    • Strong IT and administrative skills.
    • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or events where required.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.

Desirable

  • Experience within the charity or community sector.
